Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

As a young lady growing up in the world we live in today, Proverbs 31 is one of the most important chapters in the bible for me to study and fully understand. Almost the entire chapter is focused on describing a Godly woman, as a person, a wife, and a mother. While the latter two don't apply to me just yet, they will at some point and this chapter will continue to speak volumes in my life. There are many lessons to be learned from this short little section of such an amazing and aspiring book.

A few of the characteristics that could be used to describe this "perfect" woman are trustworthy (“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”), responsible (“She gets up when it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.”), diligent("She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.”), and compassionate (“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.”; all attributes that I strive to obtain.

While I want to be "perfect" like the woman described in this book of the bible, I also need to consider the reasons for wanting to have these attributes. Is it because of selfish reasons? So that I can say I am a "Godly" woman as described in the bible? Or is it truly because I am doing my best to serve God in all that I do, and in turn, am a woman of God? It is important to remember that all the glory goes to God- in all that we do. We should be striving to serve Him, to honor Him, and to glorify Him. I realized I was wanting to become a Proverbs 31 woman for my own glory- not for his. That was when I decided I wouldn't focus on a "checklist" out of the bible, but focus solely on Him.

When I continued to think about this passage, I realized that this woman's heart was in the right place, and all of these qualities were a result of following Jesus. I realized that was what my life needed to become. I needed to follow Jesus with all of my heart, and these qualities would become who I was as a result.
